Last One Out — dbuck

Intro

Verse 1

The coffee pot's been on too long
The TV talks to an empty room
My boots are by the front door
They can wait another hour

The mailbox leans like it gave up years ago
A train rolls through without slowing down
The neighbors wave from across the yard
Nobody's got much to say

Chorus

I'm the last one out
No reason to run
The day's still hanging around
It'll be here when I get there

I'm the last one out
Nothing left behind
Just another slow ride
Through another afternoon

Verse 2

The gas gauge's always near empty
The road keeps bending anyway
Windows down, warm air rolling in
The radio fades with the hills

I pull over where the pavement ends
Watch the dust drift across the tires
The world keeps spinning on its own
I don't need to help it

Bridge

Some days don't need a story
They just happen and disappear
That's enough for me

Final Chorus

I'm the last one out
Still taking my time
The sun drops behind the trees
Like it always does

I'm the last one out
Tomorrow can wait
Let the riff carry me home
