Tuesday — DaddyLove

Verse 1

You were reading out loud to nobody
Just the recipe, just the ingredients
I was half asleep on your kitchen floor
Thinking this is it, this is evidence
Of something I don't have a word for yet
Something that doesn't need a monument

Chorus

It wasn't a night, it wasn't a speech
It was Tuesday and you in bad lighting
It was ordinary, completely unremarkable
And I knew I'd never stop fighting
To stay inside this specific nothing
To stay inside this specific you

Verse 2

You dropped the spoon, you didn't care
You kept on talking with your hands in the air
I watched you from the edge of almost saying it
And swallowed the whole weight right there
Because some things you keep a second longer
Before the air gets to change them

Chorus

It wasn't a night, it wasn't a speech
It was Tuesday and you in bad lighting
It was ordinary, completely unremarkable
And I knew I'd never stop fighting
To stay inside this specific nothing
To stay inside this specific you
I've been here before, I know how this goes
You say the wrong thing, the whole thing closes
But I've never been here with you specifically
And that changes the math on the risk I suppose

Final Chorus

So I'll say it in the bad lighting
On a Tuesday with nothing at stake
Not because the moment is perfect
But because I don't want to wait
For a version of this that's more cinematic
When the real thing is already great

Outro

Tuesday
Bad lighting
Still you
Still enough
