School of Kind Hearts — DaddyLove

Intro

[Band hits
Loose count-in
Guitar riff]
(Yeah)

Verse 1

Down by the pier where the dock ropes fray
Old man Joe’s casting in at the break of day
Says
“Son
I don’t care if they bite or stay
I just like watching ’em glide away”

Silver backs flash in the morning sun
Little kid laughing as they twist and run
Cool green world under everyone
Where the mean hearts melt and the kind ones swim as one

Chorus

Fish are nice
Yeah
Kinder than us
They don’t hold grudges
They don’t kick up dust
They circle ’round in a school of trust
Fish are nice
And that’s enough for me
They don’t talk big
They just let things be
I wish this whole wild world
Was a little more like the sea

Verse 2

See that carp by the rusted rail
Scars on his side
Got a shredded tail
Still moves smooth through the diesel trail
Like he forgave every ship that ever left a stain

Neon tetras in a ten-gallon glow
Quiet in the corner of a one-room home
Girl feeds flakes while the rent’s past due
Says
“You don’t judge me
Guess I’ll stay here too”

Chorus

Fish are nice
Yeah
Kinder than us
They don’t throw stones
They don’t break that trust
They circle ’round in a school of trust
Fish are nice
And that’s enough for me
They don’t talk big
They just let things be
I wish this whole wild world
Was a little more like the sea

Bridge

What if we all moved gentle
Like a slow old ray
What if we all forgave
Like the tide each day
No sharp tongues
Just soft fins
Let the small ones grow
Let the shy ones in

Verse 3

There’s a boy on a bridge with a coffee can
Lets his catch slip back through his hands
Says
“Go home
Buddy
You don’t owe me a thing
Just send a little peace on a downstream wind”

Somewhere deep where the sunlight fades
Old blue whale hums through the salted haze
Tiny fish shelter in the giant’s shade
Safe in the shadow that his kindness made

Chorus

Fish are nice
Yeah
Kinder than us
They don’t start wars
They don’t crave that rush
They circle ’round in a school of trust
Fish are nice
And that’s enough for me
They don’t talk big
They just let things be
I wish this whole wild world
Was a little more like the sea

Chorus

Fish are nice
Yeah
Kinder than us
They don’t write laws just to watch ’em crush
They circle ’round in a school of trust
Fish are nice
And that’s enough for me
They don’t talk big
They just let things be
I wish this whole wild world
Was a little more like the sea

Outro

[Band drops to half-time
Crowd-sing groove]
Fish are nice (so nice, so kind)
Drifting in that easy mind
Fish are nice (oh, can’t you see)
I wish we were a little more
Like the deep blue sea
(Yeah)
