Always In The Dark — DaddyLove

Verse 1

Cold room
Curtains closed at noon
Phone face down
Heart like a locked-down tomb
I was chewing on the same old fear
Talking to the ceiling
Drowning in the ringing in my ears
Then you kicked that door in
Said
“I’m here
I’m staying”
You didn’t fix my pain
You just sat there
Breathing

Chorus

You were always in the dark with me
Eyes wide open when I couldn't see
Every scar
Every cracked heartbeat
You never turned away
Never turned on me
You were always in the dark with me
Front row seat to my ugly
If the world goes black
If I lose everything
I still got you
You still got me

Verse 2

I pushed
You stayed
Said some things I hate
You took every blade
And bent it out of shape
When my past crawled back like smoke
You laughed at the ghosts
Said
“They bleed like us
They choke”
You held my shaking hands
Turned my curses into plans
When I broke
You didn’t flinch
Just pulled me through the quicksand

Chorus

You were always in the dark with me
Eyes wide open when I couldn't see
Every scar
Every cracked heartbeat
You never turned away
Never turned on me
You were always in the dark with me
Front row seat to my ugly
If the world goes black
If I lose everything
I still got you
You still got me

Bridge

So if your sky caves in
If your lungs fill with ash
I’ll be the one
I’ll be the one
Running straight into the crash (hey!)
If your monsters circle close
You won’t face them alone
I’ll stand where you stood
’Cause you taught me I’m not on my own

Chorus

You were always in the dark with me
Eyes wide open when I couldn't see
Every scar
Every cracked heartbeat
You never turned away
Never turned on me
You were always in the dark with me
Now I’m here when you can’t breathe
If the world goes black
If you lose everything
You still got me
You still got me
