Red Paper Hearts (v2) — Jeffery Horton

Verse 1

Two cups of coffee
Steam curling like a question mark
You laugh at nothing
And somehow that’s my favorite part

Crumbs on the counter
Flowers in a mason jar
Your sweater on my shoulders
Like a small domestic star

Chorus

Happy Valentine’s Day
From the couch
From the kitchen
From the hallway
It’s your hand finding mine
In the middle of an ordinary Monday
Happy Valentine’s Day
Every look
Every touch
Every small way
You’re the card I keep
In the pocket of my blue jeans
Always

Verse 2

Red paper hearts
Taped crooked on the fridge door
We burn the pancakes
End up ordering from next door

You steal my hoodie
I steal a photo while you’re turned
We dance in the doorway
To a song we haven’t learned

Chorus

Bridge

Maybe it’s the way
You say my name like it’s a place
Maybe it’s the way
Your toothbrush lives beside my case
We don’t need a grand parade
Or fireworks above the bay
Just your sleepy morning face
And your feet tangled where I lay

Chorus
